The Greatest Invention

9/2/2010 3:00:00 AM

Today's Scripture
"You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth."
Acts 1:8 NASB

In a poll conducted in 2009, the Gallup organization asked Americans what they felt was "the greatest invention ever made." The response? Electricity. Amazingly, this was the same answer as when the question was asked in 1947. In spite of the passing of generations and all the progress that's taken place during a period of more than 60 years, people still recognize the powerful impact electricity has made on their lives.
Just as electrical power has changed the world, we also need power in the spiritual realm. God's power is greater than any force on earth. It can change our lives in ways we cannot comprehend. It can bring us healing and perform miracles, open doors that seem to be closed, provide wisdom to solve seemingly unsolvable problems, give hope to the hopeless, and bring joy and peace to Souls who are depressed and discouraged.
But the Bible reminds us not to covet the power itself, but to seek the One who's the source of the power. The Holy Spirit is given to those who are committed to the Lordship of Jesus Christ (Acts 5:32). If we've given our lives to Christ, the Bible teaches that the Holy Spirit is God with us and in us (John 14:17). He is always by our side-to empower us and to be our Counselor, Defender, and Teacher.
Seek to cultivate a spiritual sensitivity that allows you to hear from the Holy Spirit. Immerse your life in God's Word. Develop a more intimate relationship with Him through prayer. Seek to be filled with the Spirit, just like the first century disciples. Then be ready for His power to be unleashed, enabling you to be a witness and impact others for Christ.

Today's Prayer

Father, with You, all things are possible. Thank You for the Presence of Your Spirit. May Your power flow into my life and help me impact others for Your Kingdom. In Jesus' name. Amen.
