PREPARED FOR THE FUTURE
“Now while the bridegroom was delaying, they all got drowsy and began to sleep.” Matthew 25:5
2010. Across the globe, a new year has dawned. The events of 2009 have left individuals and nations struggling to understand the impact of leadership changes, economic challenges, natural disasters and more.
The days, weeks and months ahead are a mystery. While no one knows what tomorrow will hold, Scripture clearly teaches that we can be prepared for the future. In Matthew 25, Jesus provides a glimpse into the days just prior to His return. The parable of the Ten Virgins is likened unto the Kingdom of Heaven, where both wise and foolish servants are found. All had lamps. And, according to verse 5, all were drowsy and fell asleep. However, even in their sleepiness, some were prepared. How?
Verse 4 says that five of the virgins carried flasks filled with oil. Their lamps did not go out. They were ready at midnight when the Bridegroom arrived. And they “went in with Him to the wedding feast.”
Your preparation for the future is directly linked to your relationship with the Word of God. Psalm 119:105 states, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” It’s not enough to “possess” the lamp (the Word); it must be functional. It must shine bright to light our path. It must be kept burning if we are to have guidance and direction in the darkness before His return.
In 2010, we pray that you will renew your commitment to His Word. Read it. Listen to it. Meditate upon it. Obey it. Love it. Speak it. No matter what the future holds, you will be prepared as you seek to know Him through His Word!
Happy New Year from Inspiration!
